If you are looking to buy a home in Jacksonville NC, you are better off than most people in other parts of the country. Why? Due to real estate market taking a tumble nearly everywhere else except the coastal carolinas.
However, that aside, I still see home buyers that use other REALTORS in the area make the same costly mistakes repeatedly. So without beating around the bush any longer, here are some common first time home buyer mistakes:
#1. Not getting a home inspection
#2. Failing to make clear buyer demands to the seller before closing
#3. Waiting until the last minute to demand repairs
Some of these mistakes, like #2 and #3 will only delay closing. This is not a major issue, but it is very frustrating for all parties involved. However, #1 is absolutely huge. People shy away from getting home inspections due to the seemingly high fee.
That's fine...I mean money's tight when money's tight, right? But why not have a friend, maybe a carpenter or someone who works on houses a lot take an in depth look at the house? If you don't know anyone with a good familiarization of houses...it's time to put on some grubby clothes and do it yourself.
You could save yourself thousands of dollars on future repairs that could have been avoided if a home inspection was performed prior to closing.
